SOUND OFF: Time to stop hanging on Trump’s every word

Mar 19, 2025 | 4:05 PM

WATCHING THE WORLD TODAY, it seems obvious that Trump is giving Putin Ukraine on a plate. Piece by piece. Almost like he’s repaying a debt.

Am I correct that a few years ago, the Trump organization was facing bankruptcy because U.S. and western European banks would no longer finance him? But then along came a Russian bank who did. I have to ask what the real price was for that finance deal.

And the extreme right-wing Israeli government is now back to killing Palestinians. The phrase “shooting fish in a barrel” comes to mind. It’s even possible not all of them are Hamas terrorists. And they are starving anyway — no food, no water. And Mr. Trump is looking the other way, not commenting on this extermination of an entire population. I remember, as a 79-year-old, when that word was used before — back in the 1930s in Europe.

And every day now, the world waits for the latest utterance from King Trump. Maybe that’s what he wants — attention. Every day. it’s as though the rest of the world is waiting, paralyzed like a deer in the headlights.

Maybe it’s time to get on with living in our world: condemn genocide and corporate greed and cruelty. Just ignore Trump. Whatever happens, happens. Ukraine deserves the right to live, to continue as a nation. Palestine deserves to become a nation.

Every citizen of the USA needs to re-evaluate who they are. And that is their right. As a Canadian, I will stand up for my country, but that does not justify hating, killing, unbridled greed. Maybe it means doing the best each day, speaking out even though each of us may become a target. Be a survivor, help those we can, be proud.
