Construction of new outdoor rink to have minimal impact on Riverside Park playground, water park: City of Kamloops

KAMLOOPS — Construction is well underway for a new outdoor skating rink in one of the city’s most popular parks.

Work in Riverside Park is contained to a fenced-in area and isn’t expected to significantly impact the nearby water park or playground this summer.

The outdoor rink was approved by Kamloops city council last February to provide another recreation skating option to Kamloops residents. Construction will continue through the rest of this year, with the new rink set to open by early 2026.

During warmer months, the concrete pad will be used for food truck set-ups and other recreational activities.

The cost to build the rink won’t be paid for using City of Kamloops tax dollars, as it is fully funded by a $7.16 million grant from the province’s Growing Communities Fund.
