Goaltender Fyfe makes 107 saves as Storm, Wranglers split opening weekend of playoff series

100 MILE HOUSE B.C. — Brenner Fyfe stopped 107 shots across two games this weekend though he wasn’t able to stop the only shot he faced in double overtime at the South Cariboo Rec Centre Saturday (March 15) night.

The Lethbridge native was beaten by Diego Cazac, whose shorthanded goal at 6:36 of the second overtime period propelled the 100 Mile House Wranglers to a 5-4 win over the Kamloops Storm. It also evened up the second round playoff series at one win each, as the Storm lost their first game of the 2025 KIJHL playoffs.

Fyfe stopped 50 of 55 shots he faced Saturday, while Tyson Endall turned aside 50 of 54 as the two teams combined for 109 shots.

Luke Rothfos and Riley Langille traded first period markers, before goals from Cazac and Brett Woodard had the Wranglers up 3-1 nine minutes into the second. That lead lasted a little over a minute as Rothfos, Noah Paulsen, and Luca D’Amore all scored to put Kamloops up 4-3 after two periods.

The goals from Rothfos and Paulsen came less than a minute apart after Tyler Smoluk – who assisted on the double OT dagger – was assessed a double minor penalty for slew footing.

The Wranglers tied the game early in the third through Nash Hilworth, with Smoluk credited with the assist once again.

The Storm took game one of the series 5-3 Friday night, as Fyfe led the way for Kamloops with a 57-save performance.

In the other crease, Endall allowed five goals on 49 shots as Rothfos, Ben Filippone, David Ander, Teghan Mullin, and Nikolas Dimopoulos all scored for Kamloops Friday.

Filippone also had two assists to go with his goal Friday, while Ryan Larsen and Hayden Selin added two helpers as well.

The series now shifts to Kamloops with games three and four of the Doug Birks Division Final set to be played at McArthur Island on Monday and Tuesday, March 17 and 18.

Game five will be played in 100 Mile House on Friday, March 21, with game six – if needed – scheduled to take place in Kamloops the following day.
