Merritt ER back open after sudden, short-lived closure early Saturday

MERRITT — The emergency room at the Nicola Valley Hospital in Merritt was briefly closed early Saturday (March 15) morning, though its not clear what prompted the sudden closure in the middle of the night.
No reason was provided in a media release sent out by Interior Health around 2:00 a.m. Saturday. It only said that the facility had to be closed “immediately,” and that it would reopen at 5:00 a.m. Saturday.
This was the tenth ER closure of the year in Merritt, and the shortest one so far at around three hours.
As has been the case during past emergency room closures, Interior Health says people in Merritt who need life-saving emergency care should call 9-1-1.
