Kamloops loses four lives to suspected unregulated drugs to start 2025

KAMLOOPS — Kamloops lost four lives due to the toxic drug crisis to start 2025.

New figures through January released Friday (March 14) by the BC Coroners Service show 152 suspected unregulated drug deaths were recorded across the province, with four of them taking place in Kamloops.

Twenty-one deaths due to unregulated drug toxicity took place within Interior Health. By health service delivery area, the coroners service says the Thompson Cariboo Shuswap has lost eight lives in January for a death rate of 36.6 per 100,000 residents.

Kamloops suffered its second-deadliest year amid the toxic drug crisis in 2024 with 90 fatalities recorded. The city’s highest number of deaths in a year is 92 set in 2022.
