KAMLOOPS — Kamloops RCMP are asking residents and business owners to be on the lookout for a suspect after fake $20 polymer bills were used at three businesses this past weekend.

Mounties say they were told about fake money being used at retail stores on the 900-block of Columbia Street West, the 500-block of Notre Dame Drive, and the 1000-block of Hillside Road, over a 24-hour period March 8 and 9.

While police did not specific the stores that was targeted, the say the three incidents are believed to be related as they all involved similar fake bills. They note the bills were seized and sent to the National Anti-Counterfeiting Bureau.

“As part of the investigation so far, police have received a suspect image from the Notre Dame location and are releasing it in the hopes that someone will recognize the suspect and contact police,” RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Crystal Evelyn said.

Police say the suspect is described as a white man, standing six-feet tall, weighing 180 lbs. He had brown hair and was wearing a surgical mask at the time.

People who recognize the suspect or those with video footage that may have captured his movements are being asked to contact the Kamloops RCMP Detachment at 250-828-3000 and reference file 2025-6694.
