RCMP looking for suspect after employees at Sahali grocery stores assaulted with bear spray Friday
KAMLOOPS — Kamloops RCMP are asking for help in finding a suspect who is believed to have assaulted staff at two grocery stores in Sahali on Friday (March 8) night.
Police say they were called a grocery store on the 1200-block of Summit Drive — the Save-On-Foods — around 9:50 p.m. Friday night after an employee had reportedly been pepper sprayed while trying to stop someone from stealing a cart full of groceries.
Mounties also say they were called to the 900-block of Columbia Street West— FreshCo — around 10:20 p.m. that same night, after a suspected shoplifter who was asked to leave responded with violence and what appeared to be bear spray.
“The attempted robberies occurred in close proximity and are believed to be connected based on the investigations so far,” Kamloops RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Crystal Evelyn said. “In both cases, employees were assaulted with a weapon and merchandise was recovered, but ruined. Fortunately, no one was seriously injured.”
