Nominees unveiled for 2025 Kamloops Sports Council Athletic Awards

KAMLOOPS — The Kamloops Sports Council has announced its finalists for the 35th annual athletic awards that honour the best local athletes.

The awards will be handed out on Saturday, April 5 at the Colombo Lodge during the same event where the latest Kamloops Sports Hall of Fame inductees will be honoured.

Hockey player Logan Stankoven, hammer thrower and Olympic gold medalist Ethan Katzberg, and shot putter and Paralympic gold medalist Greg Stewart are up for Male Athlete of the Year.

Canoe Kayaker Mischa Grover, track and field athlete Lienke Raath, and Maddy Gobeil, who led then UFV Cascades to a fourth place finish in Canada West, have been nominated for Female Athlete of the Year.

Stan Marek (canoe-kayak), Dylan Armstrong (athletics) and Liam Rihela (baseball) are the three finalists for Coach of the Year.

Finalists for the Team of the Year award are the Team Canada ICF Junior Dragon Boat Team, the U18 Riverdogs College Prep Team, and the Holly Hafeli curling rink.
