KAMLOOPS — Malcolm Ashford is not short on hockey stories.

The Kamloops resident was an on-ice official in the National Hockey League from 1969 to 1980, and later moved upstairs to handle video review duties for about 25 years.

He worked the first Canucks game in Vancouver and played a pivotal role in a goal call in the 1994 Stanley Cup Final.

Sticks that belonged to Bobby Orr, Bobby Hull and Stan Mikita hang in Ashford’s basement, alongside photos of him rubbing shoulders with the likes of Hull and Vladislav Tretiak.
