RALEIGH, N.C. — It didn’t take long for Logan Stankoven to score his first goal as a Carolina Hurricane.

The 22-year-old Kamloopsian redirected a point shot from Shayne Gostisbehere at 2:34 of the third period, while on the power play, to make it 3-0 for his new team Sunday (March 9), just two days after he was acquired from the Dallas Stars in a blockbuster trade.

Stankoven’s tenth goal of the season stood as the winner as the Hurricanes beat the Winnipeg Jets 4-2 He’s the seventh player in Hurricanes franchise history to score the game-winner on debut.

Playing on the top line alongside Sebastian Aho and Andrei Svechnikov, Stankoven was named third star as the Canes picked up their fourth win in a row to sit second in the Metropolitan Division at 38-22-4.

Fellow newcomer Mark Jankowski also potted a pair in his debut, while Seth Jarvis rounded out the scoring Sunday.

Jankowski and Stankoven are the the second and third players to score in their Hurricanes debut this season, joining Tyson Jost, who did so on Nov. 11, 2024.

Frederik Andersen stopped 20 shots, as Alex Iafallo and Adam Lowry scored for the Jets. Connor Hellebuyck made 23 saves in net.

Stankoven was acquired in the trade that sent Mikko Rantanen to the Dallas Stars, who were playing the Vancouver Canucks at Rogers Arena. A large crowd of Kamloops hockey fans were expected to be in attendance to cheer on their hometown hero.

“It’s upsetting and it’s tough and I definitely feel bad for everyone, but it’s out of my control,” Stankoven told CFJC Sports following the trade.

“Hopefully, everyone that still ends up going has a good time and enjoys their weekend. Maybe down the road when I visit Vancouver next everyone can come down again.”
