Kamloops Search and Rescue recruiting drive slated for Saturday

KAMLOOPS — Kamloops Search and Rescue is hosting a recruitment drive this Saturday (March 8). The group is looking for more recruits after its busiest year on record.

“Our callouts have gone up we had about 75 callouts last year. Dementia and Alzheimer’s cases (are) going up and a bad wildfire season can be really busy for us, wo we are trying to get some more members,” said Diana Gerlof, membership coordinator at Kamloops Search and Rescue.

KSAR is looking for recruits who are willing to commit to the force for at least two years.

“Our team consists of members from all kinds of life, so it’s not a necessity that you’re skilled. We hold a ground search and rescue course every year in the fall. You need to be 19 or older, have a valid driver’s license and a clean record check,” said Gerlof.

A recruitment information session will be held Friday night (March 7) at 800 Mission Flats Road, starting at 7:00 p.m. Sign up will begin this Saturday (March 8).
