KAMLOOPS — UPDATE (5:30 p.m.): Kelson Group confirms a section of parkade collapsed as new concrete was being poured Wednesday.

Full statement:

On the morning of Wednesday, March 5, 2025, a small and localized area of the top of the north parkade structure at our City Gardens development collapsed while pouring new concrete, causing some minor damage to the structure. Our structural engineering team will be assessing this area in the days to come to determine the work required to repair the area.

Most importantly, due to construction crews following safety protocols and processes, we are pleased to report that all construction personnel are safe and were moved away from the area immediately.

Because of the small area that this incident impacted, once cleared to do so, crews were able to continue their work on other parts of the development, including Trillium tower. This incident will not impact overall timelines for construction of the project or anticipated move in dates for future residents.

I would like to thank our on-site team of safety representatives and superintendents for their diligence in building out and implementing good safety practices, so that when an event occurs like it did, we can react quickly to ensure the safety of those on-site. The reason for the collapse is still under investigation and we are working with WorkSafe BC and engineering consultants to confirm the reasons for the incident and continue our work to ensure the site is safe for our entire team.

EARLIER (2:15 p.m.): Work has stopped after a frightening incident at the City Gardens construction site in downtown Kamloops Wednesday (March 5).

Reports on social media suggest the incident involved a concrete slab collapse in the underground parkade area. A photo posted to Instagram shows caved-in concrete and rebar at ground level.

A statement sent to CFJC Today from Kelson Group says no one was hurt and the company’s structural engineering team is assessing the incident on site.

Thank you for your inquiry. We are aware of the situation at our City Gardens construction site in a small and localized area of the parkade. Our structural engineering team is currently on-site assessing the situation. We don’t have additional information to share at this time but will provide an update when we are able to. Thank you! – Kelson Group
