KAMLOOPS — The Kamloops Blazers gave their Western Hockey League (WHL) playoff chances a boost Tuesday (March 4) night with a 3-2 win over the Seattle Thunderbirds on the road.

The Blazers jumped out to three goals in the first period. Tommy Lafreniere fired home a power play goal from the slot, captain Emmitt Finnie finished a give-and-go play with Oren Shtrom and Kamloops’ Jordan Keller put back a rebound off the end boards.

The Blazers kept their pedal to the metal in the second period, outshooting the Thunderbirds 15-9, but they couldn’t add to their 3-0 lead.

The Thunderbirds gave the Blazers their fastball early in the third period, scoring two goals in 2:31 to cut the deficit to 3-2. But in a period where they outshot the Blazers 19-2, the Thunderbirds couldn’t find the tying goal.

The Blazers improve to 22-33-4-1 on the 2024-25 WHL season, good for 49 points in 60 games. They sit 10th in the Western Conference and trail the Thunderbirds for the eighth and final playoff spot by four points. Both teams have eight games remaining this season.
