Storm win two, Centennials lose two on opening weekend of KIJHL playoffs

KAMLOOPS — The Kamloops Storm are off to a perfect start in the KIJHL playoffs as they beat the Quesnel River Rush 6-2 in the game two of their best-of-seven series.

The Storm had six different goal scorers at McArthur Island Saturday (March 1) night. Luke Rothfors and Noah Paulsen had a goal and two assists each, while Hayden Selin also chipped in with a pair of assists.

The Storm also took game one of the series 4-1 on Friday night, as Luca D’Amore led with a pair of goals.

Brenner Fyfe was in net for both Storm wins. He allowed three goals on 76 total shots.

Kamloops takes a 2-0 series lead into Quesnel with games three and four scheduled for Monday and Tuesday night, March 3 and 4.

Elsewhere, the Merritt Centennials find themselves in a 2-0 hole after they were shutout 3-0 by the Revelstoke Grizzlies Saturday night. The Cents also dropped game one 4-3 on Friday, after they gave up four unanswered goals to the defending Teck Cup champions.

The Cents will aim to right the ship when they host games three and four at the Nicola Valley Memorial Arena on Monday and Tuesday as well.

Also in the KIJHL playoffs, the 100 Mile House Wranglers and the Williams Lake Mustangs are tied 1-1 as the series shifts to Williams Lake for games three and four.
