COLLINS: It’s sad to see so many DEI initiatives cut back

Mar 2, 2025 | 6:00 AM

WE HAVE BEEN SADDENED by the number of diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) projects that have come undone since the new U.S. administration was sworn in a couple of weeks back.

A number of initiatives were started during the Biden administration to make people aware of gay rights, lesbian rights, transgender rights and so on. As soon as the new president signed the order, many firms, including some of the largest in the world, took a new approach to DEI.

The principles were originally lauded by those working to provide justice for marginal members of society. Now we see their true plan. As fast as they can, they want to dump their contributions to DEI. That would seem to make it easier for companies to bypass the real intent of the doctrines — to actually do some good.

Some companies will fulfil their obligations. Others won’t. They’re the ones who have been added to my ‘No Buy’ list. That list is getting pretty long. And it’s not likely to get shorter anytime soon.

In the meantime, companies are cancelling their funding of events like pride parades, one of the most visible events to showcase issues affecting those who take a stand and fight for their rights. It’s an uphill battle but if we really believe in those principles, we can deal with them and make things work.

Some are planning to publish their ‘No Buy’ lists. That should provide some interesting reading. Might have to get a new pair of reading glasses before tackling this project.

I’m Doug Collins and that’s One Man’s Opinion.
