PRINCE GEORGE — The Kamloops Blazers began at weekend home-and-home against the Prince George Cougars with a 4-2 defeat at CN Centre Friday (Feb. 28) night.

Tommy Lafreniere and Emmitt Finnie scored for the Blazers, who didn’t lose any ground in the playoff race as both Seattle and Wenatchee lost in regulation last night.

The Cougars were up 2-0 after the first period courtesy goals from Terik Parascak and Viliam Kmec, before Lafreniere pulled one back early in the second period.

Borya Valis and Riley Heidt added to the Cougars lead in the second as the Cats were up 4-1 going into the final intermission.

Finnie gave the Blazers life inside the opening minute of the final period, but it was all they could muster as Joshua Ravensbergen stood tall in the Cougars net. Ravensbergen finished with 29 saves on 31 shots.

Blazers goaltender Logan Edmonstone turned aside 21 of 25 shots in a losing effort, as the Cougars took the season series with five wins to the Blazers two.

The loss sees Kamloops drop to 21-32-4-1, good for 47 points from 58 games. Seattle occupies the final playoff spot with 50 points from 47 games, while Wenatchee has 48 points from 58 games.

The Blazers will host the Cougars in a rematch at Sandman Centre in their final meeting of the 2024/25 regular season. Puck drop is at 6:00 p.m.
