KAMLOOPS — The Kamloops Blazers will wear a special Kami The Fish jersey during their March 15 game against the Kelowna Rockets.

The Blazers will also rebrand into the ‘Thompson River Fighting Trout’ for one night only “to highlight the unique spirit of the region’s rivers.”

“You’ll notice its not the blue and orange that we traditionally see with the Blazers jersey, so really that extra pop of colour that I think adds a little bit of excitement to it and a shock factor probably too for some fans,” Blazers Game Day Operations and Ticketing Coordinator Missy Cederholm said on CFJC Midday.

“It gives them something to talk about that is not just the regular jersey. We love that jersey, don’t get me wrong, but this is super fun and exciting and we get to support a great cause while we’re doing it.”

The jerseys will be auctioned off until Sunday, March 16, with proceeds going to support the Freshwater Fisheries Society of BC.

“We feel very fortunate to be chosen as the funding recipient for this game,” Jenna Merth, Outreach Coordinator, Freshwater Fisheries Society of BC said. “Kamloops is blessed with great fisheries and passionate anglers. This partnership will help us provide additional support to grow and develop the local fishing community.”

Fans in attendance at the March 15 game will also be able to buy limited-edition Fighting Trout merchandise from the Blazers Corner Store at Sandman Centre.

“We’ve never done anything quite like it,” Cederholm said. “We’ve seen some other teams in the league that have done these jersey rebrands and use something that represents their community and its a good way to engage new fans and bring the community together.”

“For us, what better way to do that than with the iconic Kami The Fish.”

She also said Kami The Fish, which made its debut in 1967, will be on hand at the game.

“Kami the Fish has been a symbol of Kamloops’ spirit and hospitality for decades, and we’re thrilled to see this beloved Kamloops icon swimming back into the spotlight for this special game night,” Kamloops & District Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Acacian Pangilinan said.

“The Fighting Trout rebrand is a fun and creative way to celebrate our city’s connection to our rivers, history, and community pride. We can’t wait to see fans rally behind this one-of-a-kind event!”
