KAMLOOPS — Representatives from the Thompson Nicola Regional District (TNRD) will be in Victoria in early March for a series of meetings with the provincial government.

TNRD Board Chair Barbara Roden and CAO Scott Hildebrand will join External Relations Advisor Corbin Kelley at these meetings, which will take place between March 3 and 5.

“One meeting [will be] jointly with the Minsters of Transportation and Transit as well as Public Safety and Solicitor General relating to highway safety in the region,” Kelley said, “as well as a meeting with the Minister of Agriculture and Food to discuss the Agricultural Land Commission.”

“[We’re also] meeting with Municipal Affairs to discuss small water utility system funding. And finally, a joint meeting with the Ministry of Forests and Emergency Management to discuss egress routes.”

Speaking at the TNRD’s Feb. 20 board meeting, Kelley said these upcoming meetings are part of the regional district’s push to take its advocacy efforts beyond the UBCM and directly to the provincial government.

“We have been working hard to secure an advocacy tour, which is something I’ve been harping on the last two years nearly that I’ve been with this organization,” Kelley said.

“These meetings are to discuss the TNRD’s key advocacy topics that we’ve been bringing forward to UBCM for the last two years but wanting to really dive deep into them with the ministers and get some commitments.”
