WINNIPEG — The TRU WolfPack men’s basketball team were inches away from forcing overtime in a Canada West quarterfinal Saturday (Feb. 22) night, but it wasn’t to be.

There was no upset to be had as the seventh-seeded WolfPack fell 70-67 to the second-seeded Bisons in Winnipeg to wrap up their 2024-25 season.

With 6.1 seconds to play, Dami Farinloye threw the ball inbounds to Asher Mayan, but his three-point attempt bounced off the rim and away from danger, as the Bisons held on for the win.

Mayan and fellow graduating forward Simon Crossfield had 14 and 12 points respectively. Mayan also had six rebounds and three assists, while Crossfield grabbed seven boards and added three assists.

Steve Stinson also chipped in another 14 points, while Thomas Olsen led the WolfPack with eight rebounds.

The Bisons were led by 17 point efforts from Daren Watts and Mason Kraus, while Tito Obasoto, who hit two free-throws to give Manitoba a three point lead, added 14 points.

Manyang Tong added 10 for the Bisons, while Cieran O’Hara led all players with 12 rebounds.

TRU led 19-17 after the first quarter, but trailed 35-31 at the half. While they held a 52-49 edge going into the final quarter, they were outscored 21-15 in the final ten minutes and came up just short.

The WolfPack finished the regular season at 10-10 – the sixth-best mark in program history. They also won their first playoff game since the 2016-17 season when they beat Alberta in a play-in game on Friday.

Alongside Mayan and Crossfield, Saturday’s game was the final one in the Canada West careers of Denys Bachurin and Evan Smith.
