Blazers give up two in the final minute en route to shootout loss in Lethbridge

LETHBRIDGE, Alta., — The Kamloops Blazers gave up two goals in the final minute of play in a 5-4 shootout loss to the Lethbridge Hurricanes Friday (Feb. 21) night.

Nathan Behm scored twice at the VisitLethbridge.com Arena as the Blazers played the first of two games of their southern Alberta roadtrip.

Behm and Oren Shtrom had the Blazers up 2-0 inside nine minutes before Tristen Doyle at 18:39 made it a 2-1 game after one period.

Josh Kelly restored the Blazers two goal lead with the only goal of the second period as the visitors led 3-1 after 40 minutes of hockey.

Kooper Gizowski and Behm traded third period goals to make it 4-2 before a pair from Brayden Edwards 29 seconds apart in the final minute of action made it 4-4 after regulation.

The Blazers were unable to beat Jackson Unger in extra time or a shootout, as he finished with 23 saves on 27 shots. Shane Smith scored the only goal of the shootout to give the Hurricanes the extra point.

Logan Edmonstone made 27 saves on 31 shots in a losing effort as he started his 11th consecutive game in place of Dylan Ernst, who made his return to the Blazers lineup Friday.

The Blazers drop to 20-30-4-1 on the season, and sit ninth in the Western Conference with 45 points from 55 games. They’re three points back of Seattle for the final playoff spot.

Next up for the Blazers is a game against Gavin McKenna and the Eastern Conference-leading Medicine Hat Tigers at 6:00 p.m. PT Saturday. Their next home game will be on Wednesday, Feb. 26, against the Portland Winterhawks.
