UPDATE – BC Coroners investigating fatal crash on Highway 1 west of Savona

UPDATE (11:45 a.m.): The BC Coroners Service confirmed it’s investigating the death of one person following an overnight collision on Highway 1 west of Savona.

However, because it’s an open investigation, the coroners says it is unable to share further details.

CFJC Today has contacted Tk’emlups Rural RCMP for more information.

UPDATE (8:00 a.m.): Five emergency health services vehicles were sent to the scene of the vehicle incident on Highway 1 west of Savona.

BC Emergency Health Services told CFJC Today two patients were sent to hospital after first responders received the call from 7005 Trans Canada Highway at around 9:15 p.m. Thursday.

CFJC Today has reached out to the BC Coroners Service and BC Highway Patrol for further details.

UPDATE (6:30 a.m.): DriveBC says Highway 1 west of Savona has reopened in both directions.

EARLIER: SAVONA, B.C. — The Trans Canada Highway between Savona and Walhachin is expected to reopen at 8:00 a.m. Friday (Feb. 21).

DriveBC first reported of a vehicle incident on Highway 1 at Big Sky Road near Deadman Junction Ranch west of Savona at around 9:45 p.m. Thursday. The stretch of Highway 1 was closed in both directions overnight.

Another update from DriveBC is due at 7:00 a.m. Friday.
