Respiratory outbreaks at local facilities reflection of community influenza increase: Interior Health
KAMLOOPS — Respiratory season in the Interior has ramped up, with nearly a dozen facilities in the Interior Health region currently experiencing outbreaks.
In Kamloops, Brocklehurst Gemstone Care Centre, Overlander, 5 South at Royal Inland Hospital and the Hamlets at Westsyde have all declared respiratory outbreaks, while an outbreak has also been declared at Williams Lake Seniors Village.
“We are seeing an elevated rate of influenza across the province and in the different areas, including Thompson-Cariboo-Shuswap and Kamloops,” explains IH Medical Health Officer Dr. Fatemeh Sabet. “The rate is also increasing. It is elevated and continues to increase and it is at a level we haven’t seen since 2020. It is at a high level but it is still comparable to the previous seasons. The rate of RSV infection is elevated but it is stable and COVID cases are lower and stable.”
