KAMLOOPS — The Kamloops Blazers scored two first-period goals but couldn’t hold off the high-octane Spokane Chiefs en route to a 4-2 defeat Monday afternoon (Feb. 17).

Kamloops got tallies from Beau Courtney and Nathan Behm to take a 2-0 lead into the first intermission.

But Spokane outshot the Blazers 27-6 in the second period, scoring three goals in the process.

Chiefs forward Andrew Cristall added an empty-net marker late in the third — Cristall’s second goal of the night. Chase Harrington and Mathis Preston also lit the lamp for Spokane.

Logan Edmonstone stopped 40 shots in the Blazers net. Carter Esler stopped 23 of 25 shots for the Chiefs.

Blazers defenceman Sam Borschowa was forced from the game in the second period after getting hit in the mouth with a puck. He did not return for the remainder of the game.

At 20-30-4-0 for 44 points, the Blazers remain ninth in the Western Conference, three points behind the eighth-place Seattle Thunderbirds. Spokane (37-16-1-1, 76 points) is in third place in the conference.

The Blazers head east to Alberta for the team’s next two games, against the Lethbridge Hurricanes Friday (Feb. 21) and Medicine Hat Tigers Saturday.
