KELOWNA — The Kamloops Blazers scored three third period goals as they completed the weekend sweep over the Kelowna Rockets with a 4-3 come-from-behind win Saturday (Feb. 15) night at Prospera Place.

Tommy Lafreniere scored the go-ahead goal with less than six seconds to play to give the Blazers, who came back from a 3-1 deficit, their first lead on the night. It also meant the Rockets’ franchise record losing streak has hit 13 games.

“If I’m being honest, I don’t really remember too much of it,” Lafrieniere, who turns 18 today, said post-game. “I think I was just wheeling the zone and I got at top of the circle and was lucky enough for it to go in.”

The Blazers found themselves down 2-0 six minutes into the second period, as Kayden Longley (at 18:16 of the first) and Michael Cicek beat Logan Edmonstone, who was making his eighth consecutive start. Edmonstone finished with 33 saves on 36 shots.

Harrison Brunicke made it a 2-1 game on the power play with a shot from the blue line at 16:23 of the second period, but the Rockets retook a two goal lead with a power play marker of their own. Levi Benson was credited with the goal that came with less than two minutes to play in the period.

The third period was all Blazers, as Max Sullivan and Josh Kelly beat Rhett Stoesser, who allowed four goals on 34 shots.

And with overtime looming, Lafreniere called game with his 21st goal of the season.

“It’s been a really good week,” the NHL Draft eligible forward, who also added two assists said. “I think the whole team got together and contributed so we’re looking to keep it going.”

Jordan Keller also added two assists, while Kelly added one.

The win moved the Blazers to ninth in the Western Conference with 44 points from 53 games. They’re one point back of Seattle and one ahead of Wenatchee, who have played 52 and 53 games respectively.

The Blazers are back in action on Monday (Feb. 17) as they host the Spokane Chiefs in a Family Day matinee at 2:00 p.m.
