2025 BUDGET MEETING

Public budget meeting to be held Thursday night

Feb 13, 2025 | 10:21 AM

KAMLOOPS — Residents of Kamloops will get an opportunity to share their thoughts on the provisional budget tonight (Feb. 13) at McArthur Island from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.

City council, along with city staff, will be on hand for a public budget meeting, where they will discuss the overall budget and provide insight to the list of supplemental items.

As it currently stands, the average Kamloops homeowner will face a 7.49 per cent tax increase on their next bill, but that figure is before the approval of any supplemental requests – the expansion of KFR services, corporate security with downtown CCTV cameras, and a training facility for local firefighters and Mounties.

“The Let’s Talk platform is open for the next three weeks until March 11. So people who may not be able to attend the public budget meeting can be directed to the Let’s Talk page, where they can read the business cases and provide comments [on the budget],” Corporate Services Director Dave Hallinan said.

“There is even a voting feature that is part of it as well, and we present that information when we finalize this as intended on March 11.”

Kamloops city council will then set its final tax rate in the spring, with property taxes then typically due in early July.
