TRU men’s basketball eagerly awaits playoff opponent after clinching post-season berth

KAMLOOPS – The TRU men’s basketball team will be scoreboard-watching this weekend as they wait to find out their opponent in the 2025 Canada West playoffs. The WolfPack have finished their season with a 10-10 record and it’s the first time will be going to the post-season since the 2021-22 campaign. In the eyes of third-year forward Reuben Wright, there was one key factor that came into play this year.

“Our leadership. We have four graduating guys. I think we’re possibly one of the oldest teams in the league. I’m actually the third youngest on the team and I’m 21,” said Wright.

Asher Mayan, Denys Bachurin, Evan Smith and Simon Crossfield are those four graduating players. All of them play key parts on Head Coach Chad Jacobson’s roster. It’s only his second year as bench boss but he knows how special it is to see the post-season.

“It’s been a while since the WolfPack have been in the playoffs and earned a berth in the playoffs,” said Jacobson. “To be able to do it and you know these guys (who are in their) fifth year. For them to go out with the opportunity to keep playing late into February, I think it’s important for them, but also important for our program.”

The WolfPack are on a much-needed bye week to end the Canada West campaign. Players and coaches will use the time to rest and get healthy, but will also be eagerly awaiting to find out who they will match up against come next weekend.

“I think we have got a lot of talent here,” said Dami Farinloye. “We have a very diverse play style — our guys can do a lot of different things. When we play as a team, we are as good as a lot of other playoff teams.”

The WolfPack could find out their seeding as soon as Friday night (Feb. 14) and will find out their round one opponent after the final Canada West games wrap up on Saturday.
