Body of teenager found two days after falling through Shuswap Lake ice
SALMON ARM, B.C. — An 18-year-old man was found dead two days after falling through the ice on Shuswap Lake.
Salmon Arm RCMP say the teen’s body was found in the late afternoon on Monday (Feb. 10) after an extensive search effort by the RCMP dive team and Salmon Arm Search and Rescue. Police were called just after 2:00 p.m. Saturday (Feb. 8) after the man reportedly fell through the ice between the Raven Subdivision and Sandy Point.
In an update Tuesday, Salmon Arm RCMP are urging residents to stay off frozen lakes as ice that may appear stable can quickly become hazardous.
“Our officers and Search and Rescue partners have witnessed the dangers firsthand, and we cannot stress enough the importance of avoiding frozen bodies of water,” S/Sgt. Simon Scott states. “We urge everyone to take extreme caution and prioritize safety to prevent another tragedy.”
