VICTORIA — The TRU WolfPack women were seconds away from extending overtime Saturday (Feb. 8) night, but it wasn’t to be.

Instead, the WolfPack dropped an 80-78 decision to the Victoria Vikes in their final game of the 2024/25 Canada West season.

Danijela Kovacevic set a career-high 24 points in the final game of her Canada West career, as she led all WolfPack scorers on the night. Sydney Vollrath added a career-high 19 points as well while Kate De La Mare fell just short of a double-double, finishing with 10 points and nine rebounds.

Powered by a 29-point second quarter, the WolfPack led 42-27 at the half. They also led by 10 points going into the final quarter but the Vikes chipped away at that lead to force overtime.

With eight seconds left in overtime, the WolfPack executed an inbound play to perfection though the resulting shot just missed the hoop as the Vikes escaped with the two-point win.

In men’s action, the WolfPack led for over 15 minutes though they eventually fell to the top-ranked UVic Vikes 73-64.

Asher Mayan poured in 21 points and added eight rebounds in the final regular season game of his WolfPack career. With 943 points, Mayan finished fifth all-time in WolfPack program history.

Dami Farinloye and Cyrus Harrison also hit double digits with 11 and 10 points respectively.

The WolfPack led 36-33 at the half, and 56-52 after three quarters, before the Vikes showed why they’re the only unbeaten men’s basketball team in Canada. They poured in 21 points – and held the WolfPack to just eight – in the final 10 minutes to improve to 18-0.

The WolfPack men will have a bye next weekend – the final regular season weekend – as they await their playoff opponents.

As of publishing, the WolfPack men are fourth in the Pacific Division, and will be seeded seventh. They’re currently scheduled to face the Mount Royal Cougars, who are fifth in the Prairie Division, in Calgary.
