Search continues for man who fell though ice on Shuswap Lake Saturday

SALMON ARM — Police in Salmon Arm are warning people to stay off all local lakes because of unsafe conditions as the search continues for a missing 18-year-old man who fell through the ice on Shuswap Lake.

Mounties say officers responded to the area between the Raven sub-division and Sandy Point in Salmon Arm just after 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 8.

“At this time we are asking the public to stay off local lakes as the conditions are currently unsafe despite the cold temperatures,” RCMP Staff Sgt. Simon Scott said, in a Saturday evening statement.

“We urge increased precautions if anyone is interacting near icy bodies of water.”

Police, Salmon Arm Search and Rescue, the Salmon Arm Fire Department, and BC Emergency Health Services are also involved in the ongoing search for the man. The RCMP’s Underwater Recovery Team is also expected to arrive on scene Monday (Feb. 10).
