COLLINS: Why do people take social media posts as gospel?

THE ONSLAUGHT OF ATTACKS by trolls, hackers and ne’er-do-wells have made social media pretty much useless as a meaningful form of communication. There’s a lot of gossip, lies and, at the very least, misinformation. Determining what is fact or fiction is a major challenge these days.

The spread of lies and hatred has always been part of the social media scene, and while we used to be able to tell the difference between the good, the bad and the ugly, that landscape has become cloudy.

This issue has been debated for a long time but the arrival of the King of Deceipt, Donald Trump, has thrown the whole issue so far into the toilet that… Whoa. Let’s maintain a small snippet of dignity here.

It hurts to see the mainstream media take so much flak. We are not perfect but are hardly in the same category as the folks who just react with the worst, most hateful comments they can think of no matter who they hurt. But if you choose to respond to these comments, you are simply becoming an extension of the problem.
