KAMLOOPS — The Kamloops Blazers allowed three first period goals, including one in the opening minute, as they fell 3-2 defeat to the Prince George Cougars at Sandman Centre Saturday (Feb. 8) night.

It’s the fourth defeat in a row as the Blazers dropped out of a playoff spot in the WHL’s Western Conference with 18 games left. Kamloops is in 10th place with 40 points from 50 games, and are locked in battle with Seattle, Wenatchee, and Kelowna for the eighth and final playoff spot.

Matteo Danis struck for the Cougars in the opening minute, though Kalan Anderlini’s first of the season at 4:26 knotted the score at 1-1.

Goals from Riley Heidt at 9:30 and Patrick Sopiarz at 12:55 gave the Cougars the 3-1 lead, which lasted until the third period.

Jordan Keller, named the first star on the night, made it a 3-2 game with a power play goal at 13:42, but there was no last minute Blazers comeback to be had.

Logan Edmonstone had another strong showing in the Blazers net, as he turned aside 28 of 31 shots in a losing effort. In the other crease, Joshua Ravensbergen stopped 31 of 33 for his 26th win of the season.

Next up for the Blazers is a Tuesday (Feb. 11) meeting against the Tri-City Americans at Sandman Centre, followed by a Valentine’s Day clash with Kelowna to begin a weekend home-and-home with their B.C. Division rival.
