VICTORIA — Danijela Kovacevic led the way for the TRU WolfPack women’s basketball team, who came close to picking up their second win of the Canada West season Friday (Feb. 7) night.

The graduating Kovacevic led all scorers with 18 points, seven steals and four assists, as TRU dropped a 43-40 decision to the Victoria Vikes.

Morgan Eichenberger also added to her impressive rookie season with eight points and 12 rebounds, while Kate De La Mare added 12 rebounds on the night.

While TRU led 10-1 to start the game, both teams were tied at 21-21 at the half. The Vikes then raced to an 11-point lead to start the fourth quarter and held on for the win, even as TRU made it a four-point game with two minutes left to play.

The WolfPack remain at 1-18 on the season, while Victoria improved to 10-7.

It was a much harder affair for the WolfPack men Friday night, as they dropped a 76-47 decision to the top-ranked Vikes, who remain the only unbeaten team in the country at 17-0.

Steve Stinson and Erin Chamble both scored eight points for the WolfPack who put up their fewest points in a game this season.

The loss takes the playoff-bound WolfPack to 10-9 this season, which currently has them fouth in the Canada West Pacific Division.

Both TRU basketball teams will wrap up their regular season in Victoria Saturday night, with the women’s scheduled for 5:00 p.m. followed by the men’s game at 7:00 p.m.
