O’Toole resigns from Sun Peaks council, intends to run for mayor in April by-election
SUN PEAKS B.C. — Rob O’Toole has resigned from Sun Peaks council, saying he intends to run for mayor to replace the late Al Raine.
Under provincial legislation, O’Toole was required to resign his seat by Feb. 4 if he wanted to run for mayor in a by-election, which will be held on April 5.
Other potential mayoral candidates — as well as people who want to run for O’Toole’s now vacant council seat — will need to step forward during nomination period, which is scheduled to run from Feb. 18 to Feb. 28.
If no other candidate declares their intention to run for mayor of Sun Peaks, O’Toole will be acclaimed to the office for a 19-month term. The same scenario will apply for the council seat if only one person steps forward.
