Institutional permit carries Kamloops building sector through quieter start to 2025

KAMLOOPS — An institutional permit was worth half of the Kamloops building sector’s value to start 2025.
New numbers released by the City of Kamloops Building Inspection Division show nearly $6.8 million in permit activity for January 2025 — down from the near $8.7 million in January 2024.
The most notable permit was a $3.4 million institutional building. Seven commercial permits in January were worth $1.5 million while seven residential permits were worth $1.2 million. Only three total housing units were approved in January.
The Kamloops construction sector had its third-busiest year in 2024 with $349.8 million in permits issued.
