About face: Kamloops mayor now plans to fight B.C. attorney general over leaked Integrity Group report
KAMLOOPS — Both sides of an unusual lawsuit were in Kamloops on Thursday (Feb. 6), as British Columbia Attorney General Niki Sharma was in town, along with Mayor Reid Hamer-Jackson. The AG has petitioned the Supreme Court of British Columbia for the mayor to return a leaked copy of the Integrity Group report, sometimes referred to as the Honcharuk Report, after he shared it with members of the media last year.
While the attorney general declined to speak to specifics of the ongoing case, Kamloops’ mayor has signaled a drastic change in direction, telling CFJC News he now plans to fight the petition.
“Right now, that’s what I’m thinking because it looks to me (like) it’s not the attorney general’s office that is initiating this. It’s been initiated by the City of Kamloops,” Hamer-Jackson stated. “And I have got two affidavits, which is all public information, from the [human resources] director (Colleen) Quigley, and from our privacy commissioner Stephanie Nichols. And it looks very clear that they didn’t care too much about 2023, when this was originally leaked.”
