KELOWNA — One day after clinching a spot in the Canada West playoffs, the TRU WolfPack men’s basketball team got their hands on the President’s Cup Saturday (Feb. 1) afternoon.

The WolfPack swept the UBC Okanagan (UBCO) Heat with an 89-68 victory in Kelowna, a win that earned them bragging rights in the annual battle between basketball, soccer and volleyball teams at the two universities.

A total of six WolfPack players hit double digits Saturday as TRU came out flying with 34 points in the opening quarter. TRU led 55-26 at the half, and were able to hold off a fourth quarter comeback attempt by the Heat for their tenth win of the season.

Asher Mayan, Cyrus Harrison, and Thomas Olsen finished with 12 points each while Simon Crossfield recorded 11. Reuben Wright and Steve Stinson added ten points apiece while Denys Bachurin (nine) and Dami Farinloye (eight) came up just shy of reaching double digits.

The 10-8 WolfPack are third in the Pacific Division, though they’ve played two more games than fourth-place Trinity Western Spartans, who are 8-8.

The 1-17 WolfPack women weren’t able to find their rhythm as they fell 64-29 to the 9-7 Heat on Saturday.

TRU senior Danijela Kovacevic led all WolfPack scorers with 16 points while rookie Morgan Eichenberger added 12 rebounds giving her a Canada West-best 161, tied with Victoria’s Abigail Becker.

The WolfPack basketball teams will play their final games of their regular season next weekend in Victoria against the UVic Vikes.
