COLLINS: Words that used to guide us are no longer relevant
TIMES HAVE CHANGED. No longer are we the respectful society that there was when I was growing up. And the words that used to guide our conduct are seldom used any more. In fact, the words are so little used, they probably could be removed from the dictionary and no one would miss them.
Words like truth, integrity, empathy, caring, transparency, compassion, respect, love, kindness, trust, doing the right thing, being a Good Samaritan, mercy, grace, fairness — and the list goes on.
I don’t think Donald Trump is responsible for this change all by himself, but his lies, cheating, bullying, criminal activity, threats, et cetera, have certainly played a role, and his cruelty toward others like immigrants to America, certainly makes the phrase “living in peace and harmony” irrelevant rhetoric. Again, Trump is not responsible all by himself, but he has certainly become the poster boy for deceit and hatred.
It’s possible America may not recover from the Trump agenda. If he goes down, he’ll drag other countries, like Canada, down with him.
