Kamloops police investigating after fraudsters pose as RCMP in text scam
KAMLOOPS — Kamloops RCMP are asking people to be mindful of online fraudsters, saying there has been a recent uptick in scam attempts over the last two days.
In a news release, RCMP say officers at both the Kamloops and Tk’emlúps Rural Detachments received several calls from residents on Thursday and Friday (Jan. 23 and 24), saying they got a text message from the RCMP that “falsely stated they were unable to deliver court documents.”
Police say that fraudulent text message — which featured the RCMP and Government of Canada logos — also had a link for victims to click on to reschedule their court date.
“Anyone receiving text messages or emails with a delivery notice to reschedule the delivery of documents are asked to contact the RCMP themselves to verify the validity of the message and to not clink on the link provided” Kamloops RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Dana Napier said.
