KAMLOOPS — (UPDATE Jan. 24, 9:30 a.m.): The long-awaited North Shore Access Hub at 142 Tranquille Road is scheduled to begin operations on Monday, Jan. 27.

That is when operator ASK Wellness is expected to begin welcoming residents into the building, which will be called Pathways, at the site of the former Butler Auto and RV lot in Kamloops.

The 44-bed facility will aim to cater to “identified community members in need from the North Shore neighbourhood, wherever possible.”

“Pathways represents an important connection between the Society’s street outreach services and our wide range of housing programs, enhancing safety and dignity for those in need,” ASK Wellness Executive Officer Bob Hughes said. “With this new facility, we continue our mission to empower individuals and contribute to a healthier community.”

The facility was expected to open before the end of 2024, though it was delayed as crews worked to update the fire and security systems at the site. Those renovations also included the addition of amenity spaces, laundry and storage facilities, and the installation of lights and controlled access points.

A fully equipped on-site food truck will also be on site offering three meals per day. ASK Wellness also says it will have a minimum of three employees on-site at any given time.

“The vision for Pathways is rooted in a strong foundation of community collaboration, with its planning and development guided by the Access Hub Leadership Group,” a statement from the ASK Wellness Society said. “This collective, which includes representatives from local social service organizations, Indigenous partners, health care providers, and housing advocates, was instrumental in shaping the strategy and vision for the Access Hub model.”

“The goal of this approach was to create a centralized and integrated space where individuals experiencing homelessness can access shelter and critical resources in a way that prioritizes dignity, inclusivity, and long-term support.”

Monday’s opening comes about two months after Kamloops councillors approved a 20-month temporary use permit to the end of July 2026. Property owner ARPA Investments has previously said it plans to redevelop the site into a mixed use development in the future.
