TRU to pilot blend between on-campus, Open Learning course offerings
KAMLOOPS — Thompson Rivers University says it is combining its on-campus and online Open Learning in B.C. offerings to offer more flexibility to students.
In a news release distributed Tuesday (Jan. 21), TRU says its TRUly Flexible initiative will be especially beneficial to students who find it difficult to adhere to on-campus class schedules, “from people in remote communities to those balancing careers or caregiving, to those studying on-campus who need more flexibility to achieve their educational goals.”
“TRUly Flexible envisions a new kind of accessibility, recognizing that flexibility in education must be driven by students based on where they are in their educational journey and what they need from higher education,” said Provost Gillian Balfour in the release. “This initiative will provide new options for delivery of post-secondary education.”
The school says the first phase of the program included the redevelopment of 100 courses across different areas of study. A second phase slated for this spring will test “blended delivery” of certain on-campus programs.
