VICTORIA — Another Royal rout for the Kamloops Blazers as they dropped back-to-back games in Victoria by a 7-1 scoreline.

The B.C. Division leading Royals scored seven unanswered goals at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre Saturday (Jan. 18) night before John Szabo broke Jayden Kraus’ shutout bid with less than three minutes to play. Kraus finished with 23 saves on 24 shots.

The Royals were up 3-0 after one period courtesy goals from Caleb Matthews and a pair from Cole Reschny. Second period goals from Kenta Isogai and a pair from Brandon Lisowsky further added to the lead as Victoria led 6-0 after 40 minutes of hockey.

Kamloops native Reggie Newman made it a seven-goal lead when he found the back of the net at 14:49 third period as the Royals were cruising to victory. Szabo’s consolation goal – a power play marker – came at 17:25 of the third.

Blazers goaltender Logan Edmonstone was pulled after Lisowky’s second goal. The rookie netminder allowed six goals on 27 shots in 29:29 of action. Dylan Ernst then allowed one goal on 15 shots in 30:31 of relief work.

The Blazers drop to 15-23-3-0 and remain in 10th in the Western Conference, good for 33 points in 41 games. They’re still just three points back of the Kelowna Rockets and the Wenatchee Wild for the eighth and final playoff spot.

The Royals improved to 25-12-3-4 and remain in second place in the Conference. They lead the BC Division by four points after the Prince George Cougars dropped their fourth game in a row Saturday night.

The Blazers are homeward bound for their next game against the Brandon Wheat Kings on Wednesday night, Jan. 22. Puck drop from Sandman Centre is at 7:00 p.m.
