UPDATE: Late-night collision on Highway 5 North in Kamloops sends one to hospital

UPDATE (4:00 p.m.): Drive BC says the vehicle recovery work has been completed. All lanes of Highway 5 North have been reopened.

UPDATE (11:00 a.m.): Tk’emlups Rural RCMP provided further details regarding the collision on Highway 5 North.

In an email to CFJC Today, Cpl. Crystal Evelyn says a semi-truck was travelling southbound on Highway 5 when it collided with an SUV, which then struck a light post.

According to RCMP, Kamloops Fire Rescue used its jaws of life to get the driver of the SUV out of the vehicle. The drivers of the SUV and the semi were sent to hospital by ambulance with non-life-threatening injuries.

Anyone who witnessed the collision, or has video or information relation to it, is asked to contact Tk’emlúps Rural RCMP at 250-314-1800.

EARLIER: KAMLOOPS — One patient was sent to hospital in stable condition after a multi-vehicle incident on Highway 5 North in Kamloops.

BC Emergency Health Services told CFJC Today paramedics were told of the collision on the stretch of the Yellowhead Highway near Mount Paul Way at around 11:46 p.m. Wednesday (Jan. 15).

DriveBC says vehicle recovery is planned for Highway 5 between Mount Paul Way and Shuswap Road. The northbound right lane is blocked. Drivers are being asked to reduce their speed and watch for crews.
