BC Highway Patrol removes 81 impaired drivers in Kamloops and area in December
KAMLOOPS — BC Highway Patrol says its officers took 267 impaired drivers off the road during December.
In a news release issued Thursday (Jan. 16) morning, police say 81 impaired drivers were issued driving prohibitions in Highway Patrol’s South East Central coverage area, which includes Clearwater, Kamloops, Kelowna and Vernon.
Additionally, 52 prohibitions were issued in the North (100 Mile House and north) and 36 were issued in the South East Kootenay (Revelstoke, Salmon Arm, Grand Forks and east to Alberta).
“The Winter Impaired Driving Campaign clearly shows that education is not enough for people who choose to drive while impaired,” Supt. Mike Coyle, Acting Officer in Charge of BC Highway Patrol. “Nobody is surprised when they fail a roadside screening device and their vehicle is towed. Enforcement is a necessary follow-up to education.”
