WolfPack basketball teams drop road games against nationally ranked Thunderbirds

VANCOUVER — The Thompson Rivers University (TRU) basketball teams began the second half of the Canada West season with a pair of defeats against the UBC Thunderbirds Friday (Jan. 10) night.

The WolfPack men trailed by just five points early in the fourth quarter at the War Memorial Gymnasium, but they were unable to keep up pace with the nationally ranked Thunderbirds, who improved to 7-3 with a 81-61 win.

Dami Farinloye scored 15 points and added four steals for the WolfPack, who also got ten points from Cyrus Harrison and nine points and eight rebounds from Simon Crossfield.

The WolfPack women were beaten 79-35 by the 9-1 Thunderbirds in Scott Clark’s first game as interim head coach.

Veterans Danijela Kovacevic and Priyanca Sundher had six points each while Sydney Vollrath chipped in with five. Rookie Morgan Eichenberger added eight rebounds for TRU, who dropped to 0-11 on the season.

TRU continues on the road against the Fraser Valley Cascades in Abbotsford Saturday afternoon. The women tip-off at 3:00 p.m. followed by the men at 5:00 p.m.

The WolfPack men are tied with the Cascades for third place in the Pacific Division. Both teams have 5-6 records with nine games left to play.
