COLLINS: Premier Eby is still out of touch with the people

Jan 9, 2025 | 6:00 AM

THE NDP BARELY MADE IT to the winners’ circle in last fall’s election. The electorate expressed their displeasure with the government, with the ‘too much talk, no action’ style of government and the lack of action on many of the most pressing issues of the day still needing attention.

“We’re going to solve the medical crisis,” says Adrian Dix. A bunch of money is promised.

“We’re going to fix up housing,” says Ravi Kahlon, and a slapdash plan is put into place which has resulted in more housing units being built, but which are still too expensive for any families to buy. And the so-called rental improvements? Again, outside the reach of most of us.

Lots of promises for seniors care, but little has materialized — especially as it affects people in need of assistance to get them through the day. Any improvements in the system are drowned out by the crying needs of people who are still out in the cold.

And so it goes.

And it’s pretty obvious Premier Eby hasn’t got any gas left in his tank for the coming year. The government’s plan for 2025 shows very few days when MLAs are actually working, little opportunity to debate, and I foresee more of Premier Eby ramming things down our throats, staying with his arbitrary plan that puts the word ‘democracy’ at the rear of the pile.

British Columbians expect better. They told the NDP in October they wanted better. So far, not much in sight to do anything better than it did over the course of the last several years.

I doubt they would be governing this way if John Horgan was still the man at the top.

I’m Doug Collins and that’s One Man’s Opinion.
