Kamloops Search and Rescue looking into fundraising to make a new hall a reality

KAMLOOPS — Kamloops Search and Rescue (KSAR) has been packed into its current location along Mission Flats Road while the organization hunts for a new permanent and more spacious location to run its operations.

A proposal has begun to take shape wherein KSAR would partner with Kamloops Fire Rescue (KFR), the City of Kamloops and the Thompson Nicola Regional District to construct a purpose-built fire hall and search headquarters in Rayleigh.

“We are still working on it. It is definitely not a done deal. We are waiting for another meeting with the TNRD. The TNRD board has to approve this project of a joint hall between KSAR and KFR, and then come up with some sort of a funding strategy,” said KSAR President Paula Davies.

While KSAR works through the legislative steps with local government over the first few months of the year, they are also investigating how much money they will need to raise to make the dream a reality.

“We are working on a fundraising strategy. We have launched sort of a feasibility study with Global Philanthropic to determine how much we can raise because we are hoping that if we can raise some money, that will help toward the deciding factor in having this project move forward,” added Davies.
