Kamloops Fire and Rescue (KFR) crews responded to the vehicle fire along Uplands Drive around 11:30 a.m. Video sent to CFJC Today shows firefighters dousing the cargo compartment of the van.

“The driver reported smoke and the van’s front end was on fire by the time the crews got to the truck,” KFR said, in a statement. “The metal partition between the mail and cab kept the fire mostly to the front.”

“Due to water damage and smoke damage, some mail was lost,” KFR added.

At this time, it is unclear what started the fire, or how much mail was in the vehicle at the time.

“Regarding the contents of the vehicle, some mail was lost in the fire,” Canada Post spokesperson Lisa Liu said, in an email. “Mail not destroyed, but impacted by water, has been returned to the facility where it will be assessed to determine if it is deliverable.”

Liu says people who believe they are missing mail should contact the sender. They can also contact Canada Post’s Customer Service team online or by phone at 1-866-607-6301. (TTY: 1-800-267-2797).
