VERNON B.C. — Vernon Search and Rescue (SAR) says its volunteers successfully reunited two skiers who who were lost on Silver Star mountain with their family.

It said in a social media post that crews were called to the mountain on Friday evening to find the pair of young men who are from outside Canada.

“Rescue teams on snowmobiles were able to locate the subjects at the Vernon Snowmobile Association chalet,” the post said. “They were found to be safe, dry, uninjured, and were reunited with their thankful family.”

Vernon SAR is also commending the two men for staying calm and activating the SOS alarm on their cellphones when they realized they were lost. They also say the two men did the right thing by staying put as they waited to be rescued.

While its not clear how the two men got lost, Vernon SAR is reminding all outdoor enthusiasts to ensure they know what they’re getting into.

“Outdoor enthusiasts are reminded to always be prepared to stay overnight when problems arise, and to carry emergency equipment including gps communication devices and backup power sources,” the post said.

Kamloops Search and Rescue also had a similar message after a series of call-outs to Sun Peaks Resort in December, one of which ended in tragedy. The resort also issued a safety message that warned skiers and snowboarders to stay inbounds for their own safety.
