KAMLOOPS — A boil water advisory for residents in Sun Rivers near Kamloops will remain in effect until next week.

Utility provider Bluestem Utilities updated an alert on Friday (Jan. 3) notifying residents about the extension of the boil water advisory for the entire community located on Tkʼemlúps te Secwépemc land.

“We are still proceeding with the required lab testing protocol; however, we cannot remove the boil water this week due to the timing required to receive testing results,” the updated advisory said. “We hope to have the boil water notice lifted early next week.”

The boil water notice was first issued on Dec. 31, 2024, because of a water main break that affected all of Sun Rivers. That alert said crews were conducting emergency repairs to the water system.

Residents in Sun Rivers are being told to “vigorously” boil water for at least two minutes before it is consumed. It also said that water used for bathing and cleaning does not need to be boiled.

“This is done when contaminants could have entered the water system, but boiling will effectively remove them,” the alert said. “This Order will be lifted, and customers will be notified once testing determines your water is safe to drink.”

Residents who find air trapped in their water lines or discoloured water are being told to flush the system for two to three minutes.

“If conditions persist or you have other concerns, please contact us,” the alert stated.
