LIVERPOOL N.S. — A Vernon-based father-daughter rink with ties to Kamloops has been knocked out of the 2025 Canadian Mixed Doubles Curling Trials.

Kamloops native Jim Cotter, 50, and his daughter Jaelyn, 24, were beaten 9-6 in seven ends by the Alberta-based rink of Rachel Homan and Brendan Bottcher in the Page 3/4 Qualifier game Friday (Jan. 3).

“After giving up a steal in the first end, Team Homan/Bottcher rallied immediately in the second,” a recap from Curling Canada said. “Bottcher made a precise in-off that left his team sitting three, and when Jaelyn Cotter was light on a draw, Homan made the draw for four.”

“Two ends later, Homan was left with an open hit for another four, and she made no mistake, and the end result was no longer in doubt.”

The Cotter rink trailed 8-2 at the break, and put up two points in both the fifth and seventh ends. Team Homan/Bottcher added a single in the sixth end to give themselves some breathing room.

The loss ends the Cotter’s dreams of representing Canada at the World Mixed Doubles Curling Championships in Fredericton, N.B in April, and possibly at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Italy.

Friday’s Page 1/2 playoff game will feature the unbeaten team of Jocelyn Peterman and Brett Gallant against Lisa Weagle and John Epping.

The winner will go straight to Saturday’s gold-medal game, while the loser will meet the winner of the Page 3/4 game, which will feature Bottcher and Homan against Rylan Kleiter and Brittany Tran.
